"B&B" alum Lorenzo (ex-Hector) has joined two of his kids, including "ATWT" alum A.J. (ex-Rafael) and former "Bachelor" contestant Shayne, to shoot "Leave it to Lamas," a reality show for E! Entertainment Television. Others involved in the project include Shayne's sister Dakota, her mother Michele Smith and few more of Lorenzo's ex wives, though not all of them. ("There’s so many of them that we couldn’t fit them in the shows," quipped exec producer Mike Fleiss.)
As you may recall, I ran into them just last week at an event and was quite taken by all the camera.
"I think you will be surprised to see how normal and dysfunctional this family is," Lorenzo Lamas previews. "People know Shayne from 'The Bachelor", hey know me from my shows. But we don’t live the life of opulence. I’ve had success, I’ve lost it. I’ve had money, I’ve lost it. We are, in a sense, rebuilding our lives professionally and personally. And that’s a human interest story. We’re not out there living in mansions, living the celebrity life, like, 'Ooh, isn’t this great being famous and having money?' We are dealing with very personal dynamics and the challenges that we face, having the public eye and the spotlight on us again — in my case, again; in their case, for the first time, It will be interesting for the audience to see how we cope with this new opportunity."
The show hasn’t aired yet, but it sounds like things heat up pretty quickly. After all, just three weeks before this TCA panel in Pasadena,Star Magazine broke the "news" that Lorenzo's ex Shauna Sand had an affair with A.J. when he was 18. Wowser.
Star says Lorenzo was none the wiser until they started shooting and that may make sense, since the father and son haven't been close.
"The fact of the matter is that I’ve seen more of A.J. in the last two weeks than I have in three years," Lorenzo admits. "It’s unusual, [but] there’s a chance we can make things better…through the circumstances of a television show. I just, honestl
y, am looking at it as an opportunity to get closer to my kids - the two kids who I really never got a chance to see much of when they were younger, because I was working so much. We have a relationship that could stand to be better."
As for whether or not A.J. is still seeing Shawna, A.J. demurred to his father to answer. "I don’t think there’s a relationship," hedges Lorenzo. "You know, growing up in the business in the public eye has always been a challenge for me, and now that my kids are going to be thrust into that spotlight, it will be a challenge for them too.
Normally I don’t make comments, nor do I encourage my kids to make comments, on public stories and speculation. So I guess you will just have to watch the show to find out how we deal with that."
Guess we'll have to wait till October 5, when the show premiers on E!, to find out… I have to admit, I'm not that intrigued, but I'm quite sure there are reality fans and Lamas fans who can't wait!
